This pretty little town of 514 inhabitants is part of the Montmorillon region. It is a fortified village of which only the keep and the ruins of the ramparts remain today, hence the origin of its name, briga meaning "fortress" in Gallic. Located on the border between the English Poitou and the French Berry, Brigueil-le-Chantre must have occupied a defensive position for a long time. The castle of Mareuil, which sits on the valley of the Asse, is the main witness of this. It is now a gîte. You can also admire the Saint-Hilaire church, in Romanesque style. Otherwise, don't miss the Cité de l'Ecrit et des Métiers du Livre, located in Montmorillon
