In Gallo-Roman times, the site was crossed by several roads, making Cérilly an important crossroads of communication. In the Middle Ages, the town grew around the church and boasted a fortified castle. In 1598, Cérilly became the seat of one of the seventeen châtellenies of the Bourbonnais region. At the time of the French Revolution, Cérilly became a district capital. The main attraction of this area is the 11-hectare "Forêt d'Exception" forest, which is visited by over 25,000 people every year, not only for its swimming ponds, but also for the Buffévent forest, located to the north of the forest at the Richebourg roundabout,
