Formerly Blanzacius (Merovingian period), today's village was formed in 1820 from the merger of two former parishes, Blanzay and Villaret. The 12th-century church of Saint-Hilaire de Blanzay was enlarged in the 15th century. A testament to country life, the restored oil mill at La Garde is open for the Heritage Days. Château de la Maillollière, dating from the 16th century, is privately owned and listed for its tower, chimney and building. The area's stone quarries and lime kilns bear witness to the activities of yesteryear. There are also a number of hiking trails to help you discover the area.
