Villiers-en-Bois, a micro-village of less than 150 inhabitants, nestles in the state forest of Chizé. It is home to the famous animal park Zoodyssée and its 800 species of European wildlife, including a celebrity: Kiwi, the bear of Jean-Jacques Annaud. The tiny rural commune, attached to Niort Agglo (about 25 km away), has no shops. Le Prioulet, a communal accommodation structure, welcomes individuals and groups all year round (14.60 euros per night in summer, breakfast 4.60 euros). Alongside the animal park, you can walk along the paths of the forest (including the GR36) or admire the enigmatic Montpellier maple, a remarkable tree (20 min walk)
