Verruyes owes its development to its position on the Chemin des Chaussées, a Roman road, and to its blue granite. Before 1208, the site became the headquarters of the wealthy Commanderie de Saint-Remy, later attached to the Order of Malta. Mysterious Verruyes enjoys a certain reputation. Its Saint-Martin church (1876) is said to have been built in place of Mélusine's handiwork: as construction began on a church to the north of the village, the fairy was busy every night moving the walls erected during the day to the village center. With the exception of a steeple window, which no one was able to add. More stories to add to your visit!
