Saint-Georges-de-Rex (500 inhabitants), founded in 989, is one of the oldest villages in the Marais. Around the Coq à l'âne (donkey farm), animal park and traditional soap factory, you'll discover an admirable heritage: the church of Saint-Georges (polychrome tabernacle from the 17th century), the port, its paved slipway and quays, the houses and outbuildings in the Rue du Pigeonnier, Rue du Port and Rue du Moulin, and the vineyard cabins. Two footpaths take you there. This area of the Marais features 2 fragile environments: wooded islands of ash trees and wet meadows, home to the ophioglossus buttercup, the Alpine rosalie and the European otter.
