This village, which has been awarded the Village Fleuri (two flowers) label, has just over 600 inhabitants. During the Vendée War, the Château de Saint-Mesmin was burnt down. This ancient medieval fortress dating from the 13th century can be visited in summer. The checkerboard Cloister garden, created in 2010, is also worth seeing, as is the 13th-century church, rebuilt in Romanesque style in the XVᵉ century and restored in the XIXᵉ century, whose choir and bell tower are listed as Monuments Historiques. The banks of the Sèvre Nantaise, which crosses the commune, were once bathing places, and are now just as much a place for a stroll.
