All roads lead to Rome, but pronounce it ron. Located on the Poitiers-Saintes imperial road, a few kilometers from the Vienne département, the Gallo-Roman city of Rauranum developed from the 1st century AD until the5th century. Since 1994, archaeological digs have been carried out on the 40-hectare site, uncovering thermal baths, temples, villas, craftsmen's stalls and a wealth of lapidary inscriptions and artefacts. A fabulous collection of finds is on display within the walls of the former presbytery, along a fun tour route. If you're a fan of Roman antiquity, this is a must-see!
