In 1990, artist-storyteller Yannick Jaulin and the village's 360-odd inhabitants decided that Pougne-Hérisson was the Nombril of the world! The village, one of France's most prestigious references for storytelling, owes its renown to its extraordinary eponymous festival and its permanent artistic installations. A whimsical and delirious universe that children shouldn't be deprived of... Pougne-Hérisson is the result of the merger of two villages (1801), a major trading center in medieval times. Remnants of this flourishing past include Saint-Georges church (13th century), a castle (12th century, partly renovated) and the former Saint-Georges inn (15th century).
