Oiron, a Renaissance castle, is the setting for one of the most prestigious contemporary art collections in the country. It also enchants visitors with its period treasures.

The history of Château d'Oiron, the work of the Gouffier family, began in 1449. Claude, the wealthy Grand Ecuyer of France, turned it into a Renaissance palace in 1546. Remodeled in the 17th century, it comprises a central building with a gambrel roof, flanked by pavilions. It houses a rib-vaulted gallery (16th century) and the fabulous Galerie des Peintures, one of the longest of its time: 14 scenes inspired by the Illiad and the Aeneid, with an ornate coffered ceiling and a ceremonial fireplace. Completed in 1549, it is attributed to an Italian artist.

It is the place of contemporary art exhibition that I prefer for setting but also for the choice of the artists who stick to this place.
The combination of this magnificent castle and modern art, I have difficulty.

One is well, the other undoubtedly also but not my taste.

The Park is pleasant. The annual L music is very popular.
