An emblematic monument of the city, housing a museum with permanent exhibitions entitled "1000 years of history".
Emblematic monument of the city, one of the last vestiges of the medieval city, the double keep of Niort was built between 1160 and 1175 by Henry II Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart, his son. It was then the center of a 700 m long enclosure flanked by ten towers, which was destroyed in 1817. The two keeps are supported by full turrets and hemicylindrical buttresses. They are connected by a main building built in the 14th century. Today, the monument houses the Donjon Museum and its permanent exhibition 1000 years of history.

Le donjon est devenu musée. N’hésitez pas à monter sur la terrasse d’où vous aurez une belle vue sur la ville et sur la Sèvre.
