The most densely populated commune in the Deux-Sévres Marais Poitevin, Magné is an island bordered by the Sèvre Niortaise and its tributary the Sevreau. This insularity lends Magné its particular charm. Its banks, lined with tall poplars, are enchanting. Access is via five bridges, the most original of which is the metal drawbridge dating from the late 19thcentury , with its remarkable architecture and designed to allow the passage of boats on the Niort-Marans route. In those days, the village exported pottery, an old local industry fuelled by bri marin, the marsh clay. Today, the Four Pontet on the towpath is home to artists.
