It was during the 12th and 13th centuries that Bellenaves experienced a great expansion with the creation of a priory dependent on the Menat abbey. A seigneury was later created, and became a marquisate in the 17th century. Wine production was the pride of the region until phylloxera destroyed the vineyards in the 19th century. Despite a resumption of activity, wine production finally came to a halt in the 1960s. Visit the Church of Saint-Martin, a12th-century Romanesque building with Auvergne architecture and Burgundy sculptures, the Château de Bellenaves and the Automobile Museum.
