A crossroads of communications, La Crèche has seen Picts, Romans, Franks and Arabs come and go, each leaving their mark. In the 10th-12th centuries, this land of the Counts of Poitou experienced a period of prosperity. The priory of Breloux and defensive castles were built. Its history is also marked by the Dragonnades which ravaged the region from 1681. A stopover for pilgrims since the 15th century, La Crèche owes its fame to its Saint-Jacques-de-la Villedieu du pont de Vau chaplaincy, recently renovated by the Adane association. You can discover the surrounding area, including the islands of Candé and the horst of Chavagné, via two hikes of 12.4 and 9 km (www.ville-lacreche.fr).
