Cherveux, population 1934, is a delightful rural commune, famous for its manor houses, seigneurial dwellings and 15th-century château-fortress. The latter was erected on the site of a feudal motte, although legend has it that it has a witchy origin: it is said to have sprung from a stone that the fairy Mélusine dropped from her dorn one dark moonlit night as she flew over the region.
