Only a few kilometres from Niort, at the top of a hill overlooking the Sèvre niortaise, Chauray, a former small rural town, has become a dynamic little town. Its origins date back to the year 900. It is especially the exactions carried out in the 17th century against the Protestant population during the Dragonnades that marked its history. Much later, in 1971, the commune changed its face with the installation of two companies (CAMIF and MAAF) with a national influence. But even today, walkers continue to come and enjoy the serenity of the old town. Seven hectares of meadows have been transformed into a path and the small heritage has been enhanced. You can visit its church, its temple and its Protestant tombs.
