Champdeniers (Champdeniers-Saint-Denis until 2018), the administrative center of the canton, attracted merchants from all over France and Europe with its fairs, already well known in the 18th century, and particularly its bullock market, on whose site a flourishing dairy cooperative has been based since 1962. The small town, built on a promontory cut by two valleys, hence its rectangular layout, has many assets. It is crossed by two slow travel routes, the GR 36 and the Vélofrancette: a great opportunity to reach Parthenay on foot or by bike. There's also a fabulous 2-kilometre-long underground river, ideal for caving adventures of all levels.
