Museum created in 1815, in a pleasant location just a stone's throw from the Charente river.
This museum, created in 1815 on the initiative of Baron de Crazannes, enjoys a pleasant location, a stone's throw from the river and close to the tourist office. In the former municipal abattoir building, visitors can discover the ancient city of Saintes through remarkable lapidary series (columns, bas-reliefs, etc.) from public and funerary architecture. You'll also find an interactive kiosk, as well as objects used in everyday life to give you a better understanding of the ancient city.

Mon avis est à modérer car une partie du musée semble en réfection... Cependant, actuellement on paie un droit d'entrée de 3€ pour voir une toute petite salle assez minable avec très peu d'objet. Aucun intérêt. A revoir à l'ouverture du musée...

RARE and UNUSUAL a remarkable archaeological museum partially in the open air, small elements good preserved and imposing columns in the urban environment on the banks of The river charente. The thematic exhibitions which follow one another in the covered part are very beautiful qualities
