Located in the heart of the Saintonge region, Saint-Porchaire owes part of its fame to its monuments, including the Château de la Roche Courbon, built on a rocky spur in the 15th century. The writer Pierre Loti, whose magnificent bust stands in front of the town hall, described it as "the castle of Sleeping Beauty". It features four towers and a dovecote. Surrounded by a pleasant formal garden, it is adorned with statues. In Saint-Porchaire, you can also admire the Pont Napoléon, built in 1800 on the orders of Napoléon I. It was originally designed to facilitate the passage of troops during the Spanish War (1808-1814).
