C'est un très beau musée, éclectique, certains diront hétéroclite, mais vraiment de très belles pièces aussi bien ethnographiques ( Nouvelle Calédonie, Japon...) qu'historiques, plan-maquette de Rochefort et de l'arsenal. De belles choses aussi dans la section beaux-arts et pas seulement l’œuvre récemment attribuées à Géricault.
A noter durant la fermeture de la maison de Pierre Loti, une partie des objets sont présentés ici, cela enrichit d'autant plus la visite.

Bravo à ce musée, en plein coeur de Rochefort. Ses expositions temporaies et permanentes sont toujours remarquables. A voir impérativement la maquette de Rochefort.
