Mirambeau is often a stopover for those who would like to visit the magnificent castle of the same name. The area around Mirambeau shows evidence of early settlement, dating back to at least the early Iron Age. The history of the commune is relatively unknown in the centuries following the Middle Ages. At the time of the marriage of the duchess Aliénor of Aquitaine and the future king of England, the area passes under English influence. Mirambeau went through the revolutionary period without much ado. In 1813, the Duchâtel family bought the castle and had it extensively modified. It was converted into a high-class hotel, and is also a Mecca for gastronomy.
