The most symbolic monument of the Old Port, a clock in the century, allowing the inhabitants to have the time
With the three towers, the Grosse Horloge is the most remarkable building in La Rochelle. Once the gateway to the old town, the building has kept its two original functions: to allow access to the old town and to tell the time! Equipped with a clock in the 15th century, it allowed the inhabitants to know the time. Two arcades favored the circulation of carriages until 1672. Later, the original pepperpot roofs were replaced by an ornate dome. Until 1930, streetcars passed underneath to go to La Pallice!

À l'origine, ce bâtiment était l'une des portes fortifiées de la ville.
Sa création initiale remonterait au XIIe siècle.
Un passage super sympa... pour aller faire les boutiques!
