Located south of La Rochelle, the small town is intimately linked to its environment, as the origin of its name attests. Angoulins comes from the Gallic word golène, meaning small ponds, and do not see any chance there. The town dominates a vast expanse of marshes facing the ocean, but it became prosperous thanks to the trade of brandies and wine. The arrival of phylloxera put an end to this activity. The 20th century will be that of the marshes, salty until 1956, oyster farming still today. Angoulins attracts tourists passing through but also the people of La Rochelle who can easily come by road or by train since the town has a stop for the TER train on the La Rochelle Rochefort line. With several daily stops, it is very pleasant to come and stroll at the Pointe du Chay, a true natural wonder. The cliffs abound with fossils (snakes, oysters, polypiers), the beach of Platère is pleasant and the foreshore is the perfect place to discover the marine fauna and its riches.
