In the past, the ocean covered a large part of the region and the Pays d'Aunis formed a peninsula. As the ocean retreated, it allowed plants to grow on the water. An acid and sour grass appeared, hence the origin of the name of the commune: Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis... Medieval creation as early as the 13th century, the vineyard was its main activity until the breeding of cattle and the cereal culture. After the Second World War, an American military base was established on this territory and was active from 1952 to 1966. Don't miss the Lake of Frace, a real oasis of greenery on 50 ha ! Restaurants, nautical base... are now located there.
