At the meeting point of Angoumois, Poitou and Limousin, the north-eastern tip of the Charente is one of those lands of exchange and mixing, both peaceful and contrasted. The Charente Limousine is a meeting place for the Oc and Oïl languages, and differs from the rest of the department in that the cold granite marries the warm clay tiles, the valleys are more deeply incised, and the chestnut tree wavers its branches near the oak groves. The Festival of World Music in Confolens is there to confirm this local identity forged on the confluence and meeting of men and customs. It has been awarded the "Petites Cités de Caractère" label.
