A listed site over a vast area, Sarrance has been the site of many personalities' writings. The municipality inspired Marguerite de Navarre in particular. During a stay in the abbey of the site, she wrote a collection of short stories. Another personality is the poet Francis Jammes. He immortalized the religious place with his words in Le cantique de notre-Dame de Sarrance. A place of Marian worship since the Middle Ages, the village remains a stop on the Way of Compostela. The municipality also has 170 souls who live mainly from trade, crafts and pastoralism. A welcoming city, it is easy to stay there, especially thanks to the guest rooms, cottages and hotels. On the main square, you can admire... the magnificent and imposing Notre-Dame church, of course! Just next door is its strange 18th century cloister. The building houses the Black Virgin, an amazing ancient bust that has been the subject of many pilgrimages. The village has developed all around it and in addition to the Béarnaise houses of the 17th and 18th centuries, its architectural heritage with wash-house and fountain is full of charm. In addition, you can discover the cave of Apons and its 9,000 years of history discovered thanks to the work of Patrice Dumontier, a volunteer archaeologist who initially excavated a small cave in Sarrance...
