MUSEUM OF SALT AND TRADITIONS IN BÉARNAISES
Museum housing a geological collection that reveals why there is salt in Salies
The exploitation of salt water has always been the town's main activity. The museum traces the history of this "white gold" from protohistory to the 17th century, with archaeological artifacts and the Fontaine Salée regulation of 1587, which guaranteed an equal share of salt water to each family. A salt-maker's workshop, with its fireplace lit during major events, completes the exhibition. Upstairs, the era of thermalism takes center stage. A must-see!
