A farm where you can discover the flavours of PDO Espelette chilli peppers and enjoy a variety of spaces for events and receptions
History: come and discover the red gold of Basque terroir and culture, the taste and flavours of PDO Espelette chilli pepper, the spice and heritage of the Basque Country. Pierre and his family will be delighted to welcome you. You can visit the Ferme aux Piments, in an exceptional setting in the heart of the Basque Country, 5 km from Ainhoa, listed as one of France's most beautiful villages. Espelette is 9 km away, Sare 6 km and the border with Spain 2.5 km. Here's your chance to take a closer look at this invaluable pepper for Basque (and even hexagonal) cuisine, which is traditionally strung on ropes and hung in garlands under the eaves of Basque farmhouses to dry thoroughly before being ground into powder.
Products: piment d'Espelette is used to season piperade and to mature Bayonne ham. It also enhances omelettes, ratatouille, veal, rabbit, stewed lamb, grilled fish and Spanish-style tomato and onion salads. Gustatively, piment d'Espelette, used by top chefs the world over, is half as hot as cayenne pepper and replaces pepper. Stock up for the year and don't miss the pimento festival in the village of Espelette on the last weekend in October.
Catering: for events and receptions, La Ferme aux Piments offers a range of spaces for 140 to 300 people. For cocktails and seminars, it's an exceptional setting with a terrace overlooking the Rhune and its garden area. Space for caterers.
