Petit Futé's opinion on RUE D'ESPAGNE

Vintage plate 2020

Very commercial from door to door. See the house of the States of Navarre (1610). Most of the houses date from the 18th century. With old stones and inscriptions carved on the lintels or keystones of the houses lining the paved street. Also along the street are religious symbols, Christian monograms, Latin crosses, rosettes and solar symbols. Testimony to a rich Basque heritage in the heart of the citadel where the majority of the houses were built or rebuilt in durable materials in the 17th century.

La rue d'Espagne est la rue principale, avec ses commerces pour touristes et ses restaurants pour pèlerins. Au bout de la rue, l'église Notre Dame et son clocher au-dessus de la porte du même nom.
