With its omnipresent water, its historical heart, its heritage, this village is clearly one of the most pleasant in the Ossau valley. Last bastide created in Aquitaine in 1347, it was built by a viscount officer of Gaston Phébus, Roger d'Arévénacq. In 1574, Catherine of Navarre entrusted the command of Rebénacq to Bertrand d'Espalungue and, at the beginning of the 17th century, the village was erected as a barony. The last lord here was the Marquis of Saint-Chamans, his castle did not resist the revolution and was sold before being destroyed. Among the remarkable elements are the ruins of the castle of Bitaulé dating from the late eighteenth century and the quarries operated today by GSM PA and Soubercaze father and son. An unfortunate episode struck Rebénacq in 1991: a violent storm destroyed everything in its path, requiring numerous works to rehabilitate the damaged heritage. Hence the idea of creating a "Festival des vieux métiers" in 1993, welcoming many visitors to admire the old wash house on the banks of the Neez. A festival unfortunately stopped in 2012. Today, Rébénacq continues to attract the curious, a splendid commune in the Ossau valley.
