Church of the XIXth century, with many remarkable ornamental elements of which a bell tower of 77 meters in Pau

Built in 1863, the Saint-Martin church was designed by the Strasbourg architect Emile Boeswillwald, who also restored the Saint-Chapelle in Paris. His plans are based on the Latin cross model to recall Christ on the cross. Located at the gates of the castle, the church is topped by a 77-meter bell tower and is built of Arudy and Angoulême stones. The paintings and sculptures are the work of renowned artists: Steinheil, Flandrin, Geoffroy-Dechaume, Michel-Pascal. In addition, Saint-Martin has a Werner organ and a remarkable carillon. The treasure contains some precious objects offered by Queen Isabella, during her escape from Spain in 1868.
