From Iholdy, after the pass of Ipharlatze, the village appears in the hollow of a valley once crossed by the Roman road Bordeaux-Astorga. If the occupation of the place is attested before the Antiquity by the fortified enclosure of Olhaguiagagne, the creation of Ostabat itself goes back to the 10th-11th century. The village is home to the 12th-13th century chapel of Saint-Nicolas d'Haranbeltz, a remnant of the priory-hospital. Above its door, there is a chrism from the 11th century with a five-pointed star and a Maltese cross. In Iholdy, there is the castle of Latsaga, built in the 13th century, and farmhouses from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Not to be missed: the view from the Iparlatze pass!
