Museum evoking the history of Bearn Protestantism, and presenting a discovery of four centuries of history in Bearn

Installed in the House of Jeanne d'Albret, this museum is a must-see in Orthez. It invites you to discover four centuries of history of Protestantism in Béarn, from the origins of the Reformation to the beginning of the 20th century. The permanent exhibition retraces the astonishing journey of the Huguenots, to the rhythm of the events in Béarn and France. Different objects of the daily life are exposed, the jolts of the history are deciphered there. Thematic visits are organized. In addition, the building itself is a magnificent stone house, as imposing inside as outside, which alone is worth a visit with a modernized bookshop and reception.

It is primarily a " maison" beautiful with its exposed stone size and stone stairs, too. Then had collections are very interesting, and there are grounds for occupy an afternoon so there is to see. There is also among the objects, objects more " touchants" because relating to the daily life of the Protestants during religious persecution, including the Bibles known as " with chignons" because they were tiny to the point of being able to be hidden in the buns women. It also should be specified that the people in charge of the reception, are professionalism, and everything is done so that the visit takes place as well as possible. Finally, it is possible on site to buy " fameuse" Huguenot cross. Good visit
