A small town nestled in the heart of the Maye valley, Crécy is known for its forest but also for its eventful past. The battle of Crécy was a major event that marked the beginning of the Hundred Years War. Following the union between King Edward I and Eleanor of Castile who brought the Ponthieu as a dowry, the county became in 1279 the possession of the English crown. In 1346, Crécy was at the heart of an unprecedented confrontation between France and England. In 1940, like many towns in the region, Crécy was bombed during the Second World War. Today, the town has recovered its calm and serenity.
