The beret: symbol of France abroad, it has crossed all fashions and eras. For 170 years, Laulhère has been developing its know-how in this field at the foot of the Pyrenees, the historical birthplace of the beret. The Basque beret is in fact a Bearnese beret, which was knitted by the shepherds of this region and felted in the water of the Gaves. The name would come from Napoleon III who discovered this flat headgear during a stay in Biarritz. In 1840, Lucien Laulhère founded a wool and cotton weaving factory in Oloron-Ste-Marie. Today, Laulhère is the only beret factory that makes its products entirely in France.
