Marked by history, Morlaàs was the residence of the Viscounts of Béarn. It then became the capital of Béarn, replacing Lescar, which was destroyed in the 9th century. It wasn't until the 13th century that Morlaàs lost this prestigious status to Orthez, the viscount's new residence. These centuries of glory are still visible in the town's architecture, with Romanesque churches (Sainte-André, Sainte-Foy) and convents (Jacobins, Cordeliers, Bénédictins). The town also boasts a rich civil heritage, including eleven mills, remains of 11th-century fortifications at Bourg-Mayou and a museum of medieval furniture.
