A small capital in the heart of history, Montaner is crossed by the Lis Daban and Lis Darré rivers. Its geographical location is strategic, with its eminences overlooking the Adour valleys and its proximity to Bigorre and Armagnac. Gaston Fébus understood this well. In 1370, he set up a guard outpost there, a keep still dominating the commune divided into three territories, on three hills, bringing together several hamlets. In addition, its terroir is rich in small built and natural heritage, on an ancient Celtiberian territory of which we know the Benearni (Béarnais) in the west and the Bigerri (Bigourdans) in the east.
