The chief town of this canton suffers a little from the comparison with Gerberoy, its charming neighbor. However, this town is worth a visit for its half-timbered and corbelled houses and for its 18th century manor house. Today occupied by a religious congregation, the brick house was built for the marquise Conflans-d'Armentières, lady-in-waiting of the duchess of Berry. Also worth seeing is the old wash house which has kept its hearth in which the washerwomen used to heat water. On the other hand, there is nothing left of the spectacle factory. However, until the beginning of the 20th century, Songeons was an important center for the manufacture of glasses.
