Pont-Sainte-Maxence is a very old Gallic village, with the Oise River running through its center. This natural and strategic border structures the city into two distinct parts: the city downstream from the bridge and the one upstream. The city is aptly named because the history of its bridge has strongly influenced the city. The Oise River, which crosses the city from east to west, is used by barges and pleasure boats. In the summer, from spring to autumn, many pleasure boats cross the city and stop in the evening. The city has the ambition to create a river stop to welcome these tourists in better conditions.
