In the Jurançon appellation, located a few kilometres from Oloron, this village preserves the remains of a very old monastery founded in the 10th century, one of the most flourishing abbeys in Béarn at the time. It is said that in 542, after the capture of Pamplona and the siege of Zaragoza, Childebert I, the Frankish king, son of Clovis, stopped his troops at Luke. He brought back the relics of Saint Vincent from his battles and authorized one of his officers to build an oratory dedicated to Saint Vincent. The monastery was to enjoy great prosperity until 1569, when it was destroyed by Montgomery's troops on the orders of Jeanne d'Albret. The exercise of religion is then abolished. The church of Lucq was then converted into a Protestant temple and remained so for almost 40 years.
