Situated on the edge of the Gave de Pau, Laroin has had to face the perpetual threat of floods for centuries. Some memorable ones have wreaked terrible havoc. The history of this ancient city is very ancient, as excavations have proved the Gallo-Roman presence on its lands. All that remains today are the bases of a pebble tower on the hillside, remains of amphoras and a well. In 1385, the town was united with Saint-Faust and Monhauba, forming a single whole. It was only in 1774 that Laroin became independent, then it was not until 1813 that the cadastral plan began to show the boundaries of the town, which did not prevent the clashes with the towns of Lescar and Lons, so close. Of the wine-producing properties, only one remains managed by Yvonne Hégoburu; a few rare farms remain, changing the face of the village which even saw the arrival, in 1965, of oil exploitation.
