Present and past mingle wonderfully in this beautiful Béarnaise commune. The present, first of all with the superb Maison des vins, just recently installed; the past then, this village, a listed site. Founded in 1100 and 1124, the Comanda deu faget d'Aubertin was the centrepiece of the network of hospitals set up by Gaston IV the Crusader. In particular, he took part in the reconquest of Zaragoza from the Moors. At its heart, the Romanesque church, dedicated to Saint Blaise, is a jewel of Romanesque art reworked in the 18th century with the addition of the facade and, next to it, the cemetery, unique in Béarn, with beautiful discoid stelae that are more common in the Basque Country. Today, the Commanderie de Lacommande offers the gîte to pilgrims while at the same time offering numerous cultural events, organised in concert by the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Departmental Council and the Jurançon Wine Route.
