Following the banks of the Marne, we arrive at Essômes, a small village between two hillsides planted with vines. The commune is crossed by the river Marne and counts about 2000 inhabitants. Essômes-sur-Marne is rich in historical and cultural heritage, such as the Abbey of Saint-Ferréol. It is a religious building dating from the Middle Ages, built in the 15th century, considered as one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic architecture in Picardy and classified as a historical monument since 1841. The Abbey of Saint-Ferréol has a rich interior decoration, including carved capitals, statues and remarkable stained glass windows.
