Ispoure, which is at the confluence of all the waters of the valley, the Laurhibar, the Arzuby and the Nives, clings to the slopes of the Arradoy. During the Middle Ages, it was the first rampart of the town of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. To the west, the Maison Laustainia is still there and the legend remains that the "Laminaks", the elves, built the building in one night, blocking the parade that closed the Pays de Cize on the Nive. To the east, the Château de Larrea, very well restored, was the home for several generations of the captains of the châtelains of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, whose support for Jeanne d'Albret was never lacking and whose lands were even erected as a barony in 1724. A history and a present that continues with a very topical winegrowing tradition thanks to the reputation of Irouléguy and the new techniques of terrace cultivation.
