"King am not, nor prince, nor duke, nor count also, I am the lord of Coucy". Enguerrand III (1182-1242) was right to be so proud since he built the largest medieval castle ever built in Europe! Wherever you come from, the building imposes its majesty on the valley of the Ailette. Located 15 kilometers from Laon, Coucy is a village that is both intimate and open to the world, a resolutely charming place. After discovering the towers and the fortified gates of the city, the visitor can take the walkway and see the magic that operates on the site. The current castle and the enclosure are thus due to Enguerrand III, lord of Coucy.
