Observatory castle, of neo-gothic and orientalist inspiration, in a park offering a beautiful view, an exceptional site.

The Abbadia Observatory Castle is an exceptional and enchanting site, set on the steep cliffs of Hendaye in the middle of a moor, built between 1864 and 1884 by the famous architect Viollet-Le-Duc for Antoine D'Abbadie, a renowned ethnologist, astronomer, geographer and scientist of genius. Of neo-gothic and orientalist inspiration, the building, nestled in a park with an exceptional panorama of the Atlantic Ocean, resembles these fortified castles of the Middle Ages

Quality Tourism. Closed 3 weeks in January. " Prestige Visit " 2 hours with access to the kitchens, once a month. Guided tour: adult: 9,90€. Monday morning and Saturday morning (9.45 am visit): €8.50 (July/August). Child 4/13 years old: 4,90 €. Teenager 14/18 years old: 7,50 €. Family" package: 27 € (2 adults + 2 or 3 children). Discovery of the scenic areas (park and pavilion): 2 €, free up to 16 years old. July/August 7/7: guided tours every 30 min. from 10 am to 3.30 pm. Unguided visits from 4pm to 7pm, last entrance at 6pm. Treasure hunt for 7/13 year olds: 3 €. Pass Abbadia/Arnaga: 15 € from 1/04 to 5/11 for self-guided visits. New: guided tour of the restored park: 4 €, 6/13 years old: 2 €. On Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 am, guided tour "The outskirts of Abbadia" (outside and inside the castle). 1st hour visit on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays at 9.45 am. On sale only on internet. Holiday vouchers. Tourism & Handicap Label. Rental of the castle for various events, weddings, concerts... Shop. Bar. Very busy site, booking is strongly recommended during school holidays.
