In 1385, fourteen houses were listed in Gurmençon, including the one housing the forge, before a seigneury took over with a noble house whose terrace overlooked the gave d'Aspe. As early as the 16th century, a mill was mentioned for grinding and then used as a sheet drum. It was reactivated in 1874. This small village located in the foothills of Oloron is already in the mountains and nature while remaining quite close to Oloron-Sainte-Marie. Its economy is essentially based on agricultural activity; however, it was home to high-tech industries such as a paper mill in the 17th century or, in the 1920s, a hydroelectric power station, one of the first in the department. This one was built by Maurice Rozan who then created the eponymous chocolate factory in Oloron, now renamed Lindt. Its architectural heritage includes La Porte d'Aspe, a monumental sculpture by the Oloronese Pedro Tramullas. It symbolizes the spirit of pilgrimage and Romanesque art. It is visible on the roundabout between roads N 134 and RD 55, at the northern entrance of the village.
