A 50-hectare site of cliffs, dunes and foreshores to discover the riches of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire
Not to be missed! This site, classified as a Great Natural Site, was designated the first remarkable site in the Vendée in 2007! It is in the running to obtain the label of Great Site of France! This last segment of five kilometers located, between the communes of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire and Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard, from the sky, is sublime! It is in fact the mouth of the oyster channel. A bend to see the pine forest reflected in its waters, a final meander to bypass the beautiful dune of the coastline, and the Payré which is in fact the river that passes through Talmont and flows into the ocean between Jard-sur-Mer and the beach of Veillon, with on its left the Pointe du Payré, belonging to the municipality of Jard-sur-Mer, and on its right the Pointe and the beach of Veillon. Let us linger on the Pointe du Payré located at the end of an oyster farm passage. With a surface area of 50 ha, this site is composed of cliffs, dunes and foreshores. A signposted route allows you to discover the riches of this place between dunes and marshes in a continuum of lush forest. The interest of this site lies not only in its beauty but in its geological interest, which makes it one of the most visited geological sites in the Vendée. The town of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, in collaboration with the town of Jard-sur-Mer, has just officially committed itself to the "Opération Grand Site" process because of the exceptional nature of its natural and historical heritage. This first step will eventually lead to the "Grand Site de France" label.
