The first historical records of the town date back to 1670, during the reign of Louis XIV. Two heritage sites are worth seeing: the church and the château. The château fort de Saint-Mesmin, in the commune of Saint-André-sur-Sèvre, is a medieval fortress dating from the 14thcentury . It underwent major fortification work at the end of the 14th century. Its 28-metre-high keep, crowned with machicolations, arrow slits, drawbridges and vestiges of hoardings bear witness to the architecture of a fortress built during the Hundred Years' War. The Château de Saint-Mesmin is a must-see in this region!
