Read moreHow about Côte et Plage? This friendly restaurant on the embankment of the main beach is located on the right-hand side, at the end, towards the bathing cabins. Regulars come here for their morning coffee or to share plates of homemade tapas. We took advantage of the sunshine to sit on the terrace overlooking the beach. Home-cooked with fresh produce, the main dishes include fish tartare with flavours from other parts of the world and pad thai for an exotic touch, with a local touch: grilled sardines from Saint-Gilles and mussels in season.

Read moreIn front of Patricia and Éric's restaurant, located in a pedestrian area a few steps from the port, there is a terrace. Made from quality local organic flour and fresh produce, the galettes are made to order. Amongst the must-tries, the Cancalaise with scallops, the Saint-Gilles with marinated sardines. Among the favourites: the Tartiflette, the Hamburger. Good point: suggestions for vegetarian galettes! Other alternatives: bavette, fish & chips, and mussels in summer. For dessert, we succumbed to the homemade caramel beurre salé crepe.
